How to code Tinea (Dermatophytosis)
Dermatophyte infections are coded by body site in category B35: B35.0 tinea capitis and barbae, B35.1 tinea unguium (onychomycosis), B35.2 tinea manuum, B35.3 tinea pedis (athlete's foot), B35.4 tinea corporis (ringworm of the body), and B35.6 tinea cruris (jock itch). B35.9 is used only when the site is not documented.
Infections at more than one site are each coded separately, for example B35.3 and B35.1 for athlete's foot with toenail fungus. Tinea versicolor (pityriasis versicolor) is not a dermatophyte infection and is B36.0. Candidal skin and nail infection is B37.2, not B35.
