Ectopic Pregnancy ICD-10-CM codes

Category O00 is organized by implantation site: O00.0- abdominal, O00.1- tubal, O00.2- ovarian, O00.8- other, O00.9- unspecified. Tubal and ovarian pregnancies carry laterality in the sixth character (1 right, 2 left, 9 unspecified), and every site has a character for whether an intrauterine pregnancy coexists (0 without, 1 with, the heterotopic case). O00.109 is an unspecified tubal pregnancy without intrauterine pregnancy; O00.101 and O00.102 specify the side.

Rupture is not a separate axis in O00. Complications such as hemorrhage, infection, or shock are reported in addition with category O08 (for example O08.1 delayed or excessive hemorrhage following ectopic and molar pregnancy, O08.0 infection), sequenced after the O00 code. O08 is used only with O00 to O02, not with O03.

Do not assign a Z3A code with an ectopic pregnancy. A later pregnancy in a patient with a history of ectopic pregnancy is supervised under O09.1- (O09.10, O09.11 by trimester). Outside pregnancy, the history is Z87.59.
