How to code Blurred Vision

H53.8 is other visual disturbances and is the code the ICD-10-CM index gives for blurred vision. H53.9 is unspecified visual disturbance. Subjective visual disturbances are coded from H53.1-, including H53.12- transient visual loss and H53.13- sudden visual loss by eye, H53.14- visual discomfort, and H53.15 visual distortions of shape and size.

Double vision is diplopia H53.2 (see the diplopia guide), visual field defects are H53.4-, and unspecified visual loss is H54.7. When an eye exam finds the cause, code the condition instead, for example presbyopia H52.4 or age-related cataract H25.9.
